Information about Mental Health

Persons with mental health problems may require a certain level of support to be able to live in the community.

The Home Support Service aims to assist and support persons with mental health difficulties to remain within the community and to live as full a life as possible.

The Home Support Service also aims to:

  • Foster a sense of social responsibility within the community
  • Reduce or eliminate the revolving door syndrome by preventing relapses or admissions to hospital whenever this is possible
  • Promote good mental health within the public
  • Promote positive public awareness of mental health issues and so reduce social stigma

Home Support Workers are involved in: assessing a person's needs and planning and evaluating the care being provided; providing psychological help to (the) users; offering education and advice about mental health problems to individuals and their relatives, as well as providing support in dealing with the difficulties one is likely to encounter.
