If you walk into the office and see a colleague coughing, sniffling, and clearly unwell, you instinctively know something’s not right. You might even tell them, “You should probably go see a doctor.” Or if someone is on crutches struggling with the stairs, it’s obvious adjustments around the office need to be made to accommodate them while they recover. With physical health, the signs are often very visible, and mostly, we know how to respond to them naturally.

Mental health, however, isn’t always as easy to spot. The signs are often there, but many of us aren’t sure what we’re looking for or what to do when we notice something’s off. It comes down to awareness, or mental health literacy.

For organisations that want to truly support their people, learning to recognise these early signs and respond with confidence is crucial. And the good news is, this is something that can be learned through practical training, such as Richmond Foundation’s Mental Health First Aid at the Workplace.

In any workplace, people show up each day carrying more all sorts of life experiences. Some arrive energised after a good weekend or a family holiday. Others may be dealing with anxiety, stress, burnout, or personal challenges.

The difficulty, as Tania Camilleri, Employee Relations Officer & PA to the Management Board at The Miller Group explains, is that while people are happy to share the positives, conversations around mental health can still feel uncomfortable at work.

“There’s often a hesitation,” she notes, “whether it’s fear of being judged or of how it might be perceived professionally.”

Recognising this, the company set out to create a more open and supportive culture through adopting a Mental Health First Aid training programme with Richmond Foundation.

“Our organisation has greatly benefited from the training,” Tania says. “It’s strengthened our culture by making conversations about wellbeing more open and supportive.” She explains that employees now feel more confident recognising signs of distress and stepping in to offer help, leading to better morale and earlier intervention.

“I strongly encourage other companies to invest in this training,” she adds. “It creates safer, healthier, and more compassionate workplaces.”

Stress used to be seen as a personal issue, something individuals were expected to manage quietly on their own. Thankfully, today, more and more of us are aware that work pressures, personal responsibilities, and everyday challenges can build up over time. And when that stress begins to affect how people communicate, focus, or make decisions, it no longer remains an individual concern. It can ripple across teams, influencing productivity and the overall workplace culture.

In that sense, stress becomes an organisational issue as much as a personal one. That’s why having the right support systems in place for your people matters.

It may sound like a huge responsibility, and a difficult one to navigate at that. However, through Richmond Foundation’s Healthy Minds Talk programme, we provide companies in Malta with a simple and effective way to give employees access to completely confidential professional help, offering them a safe space to talk through challenges, better understand their stress, and develop healthier ways to manage it.

For Daniel, who had been working at his company for more than ten years, talking about mental health had never felt natural. “In my family, it just wasn’t something we ever spoke about,” he says. “And it definitely wasn’t something I was going to bring up at work.”

But during a difficult period in his personal life, Daniel began feeling a constant sense of stress and anxiety. “My mind was constantly split between what was happening at home and what I needed to get done at work,” he explains.

That’s when he remembered his company offered Healthy Minds Talk. “I never imagined I’d be someone who would go to counselling,” he admits. “But knowing it was confidential, free, and that I could sign up for sessions without needing to go through HR made it feel possible.”

Through a series of sessions with a professional, Daniel found a space to talk openly and reflect on what he was experiencing. “Those conversations helped me understand myself better and manage my stress in a healthier way,” he says. “It also really made me appreciate working for a company that understands people sometimes need that level of professional support and has the foresight to make it available for them whenever it’s needed.”

Healthy Minds Talk gives employees a safe, confidential space to talk through personal or work-related challenges before stress begins to affect their wellbeing or performance. By making professional help easily accessible, organisations can help their people manage difficulties earlier while strengthening the overall workplace environment.

Through this workplace support programme, employees can:

Access confidential one-to-one counselling from qualified mental health professionals

Speak openly about work stress, personal challenges, or emotional difficulties

Be matched with the professional best suited to their needs

Learn practical techniques to manage stress, anxiety, and overwhelming thoughts

Receive support that is completely private and separate from management or HR

Gain guidance during difficult life situations, including family or legal concerns

What’s more, the wider organisation also sees important benefits from Healthy Minds Talk. That’s because:

When employees receive the right guidance, they are better able to concentrate on their work and maintain consistent performance.

Offering confidential support shows employees their organisation genuinely cares about their wellbeing, building engagement and loyalty.

Anonymous reporting helps HR and leadership understand patterns affecting employee wellbeing while maintaining full confidentiality.

We often spend more time with our colleagues than with our own families. We work side by side for years, share deadlines and long days, yet we rarely know what people are really carrying with them. That’s because many of us keep our personal struggles private, trying to separate home life from work. But stress, grief, or trauma doesn’t stay neatly contained. It can show up as withdrawal, irritability, sudden conflict, or a noticeable change in behaviour.

This is where good management and strong HR really matter. Being able to notice when something feels “off”, and knowing how to respond, can make a real difference for both the individual and the wider team.

That’s exactly why Richmond Foundation created Healthy Minds Learn to offer practical training designed to help managers, HR professionals, and team leaders recognise mental health challenges early and offer informed, compassionate support when it’s needed most.

“As an HR Manager, I’ve seen how lost teams can feel when someone is going through a crisis,” says Donald Buhagiar. “People want to help, but they don’t always know how or where to turn.”

Donald participated in Richmond Foundation’s Healthy Minds Learn courses to better understand trauma at work, and the impact was immediate. “Research shows that around 22% of employees experience trauma in the workplace, and many are still affected long after the incident. That really resonated with what I was seeing day to day.”

Through the training, Donald learned how trauma can show up in different ways, how to respond with empathy, and how to guide teams through difficult moments. “It’s made a real difference,” he explains. “Our employees feel better supported, and I feel more confident in my role. I now have the tools to step in when someone asks for help, or even when I sense they might need it but don’t yet know how to say it.”

We often talk about mental health as if it exists only in our heads. But anyone who’s ever felt mentally foggy after a few poor nights of sleep, irritable after skipping meals, or calmer after a walk knows this isn’t true. Our bodies and minds are deeply connected, and when one is out of balance, the other usually follows.

As we look ahead to a new year, many of us carry lingering fatigue, stress, and low energy with us. Our one-day Healthy Minds Recharge wellbeing retreats were created for exactly these instances. Here’s your chance to pause, recharge, and understand how everyday lifestyle choices affect our mental wellbeing.

Learn small, realistic ways to support both body and mind, so you can face 2026 feeling more grounded and energised.

Healthy Minds Recharge is a practical, evidence-based wellbeing workshop designed by Richmond Foundation in Malta to help participants reset mentally and physically. Led by a small team of qualified professionals, the workshop offers a holistic view of wellbeing, looking at how nutrition, movement, stress, and daily habits shape our mood, focus, and resilience.

We ensure the experience is intentionally kept intimate, with small groups of 15 to 20 participants, allowing for meaningful discussion, reflection, and individual attention. Rather than a passive talk, this is an interactive day that encourages people to reconnect with themselves and leave with tools they can actually use.

During a Healthy Minds Recharge retreat, participants are guided to reflect on how simple, often overlooked daily habits can quietly influence their mood, energy, and overall mental wellbeing. Here are some relatable examples must of us experience from time to time:

Skipping meals or eating on the go: When you miss meals or rely on quick, sugary snacks, your energy crashes, and so does your mood. That mid-afternoon irritability or brain fog isn’t just “stress”, it’s often your body asking for fuel.

Constant sitting and little movement: Sitting at a desk all day can leave your body tense and your mind restless. Even short walks or gentle stretching can ease physical stiffness and help calm racing thoughts.

Poor sleep patterns: Going to bed late, scrolling on your phone, or waking up exhausted doesn’t just affect energy, it makes emotions harder to manage. Small changes to sleep habits can significantly improve focus and emotional balance.

Shallow breathing during stressful moments: When stress hits, many people unconsciously hold their breath or breathe shallowly, which signals danger to the brain. Learning simple breathing techniques can quickly reduce anxiety and bring a sense of calm.

Being mentally “on” all the time: Constant notifications, emails, and mental to-do lists don’t give the brain a chance to rest. Over time, this can lead to overwhelm, low mood, and burnout, even if everything seems “fine” on the surface.

We focus on lifestyle medicine principles and mental health expertise to explore realistic strategies that fit into everyday life. What’s more, our focus is always on progress, not perfection, helping people understand what works for them rather than following one-size-fits-all advice.

Interactive Learning You Can Apply Right Away

Theory is all well and good, but we want you to get hands-on and engage with the advice. That’s why throughout our workshops, participants take part in guided discussions, reflective exercises, gentle movement sessions, and practical demonstrations.

Rather than being told what to do, you are encouraged to explore your own habits, identify stress triggers, and reflect on what might need adjusting. Because the learning is practical and personalised, many people find themselves using the tools they learn the very same day, whether it’s a breathing technique, a change in how you structure your day, or a new way of checking in with yourself.

Start the Year Recharged With Richmond Foundation

Healthy Minds Recharge is designed for anyone who wants to feel more balanced, focused, and energised, without unrealistic expectations or quick fixes. With limited places available, it offers a rare chance to step away from daily demands, reset your body and mind, and invest in your wellbeing in a way that truly lasts.

Each one-day retreat includes:

Reflective, guided workshops led by a qualified psychotherapist

Relaxation and gentle movement sessions facilitated by a certified yoga instructor

A healthy lunch, snacks, and refreshments to support energy and focus throughout the day

Whether you’re booking a retreat for your team or staff, this is your opportunity to start the year feeling grounded, refreshed, and ready for what’s ahead. Secure your retreat and recharge the right way.

December is a season of giving and connection, and a time when many companies naturally look for meaningful ways to give back. But it’s also one of the hardest times of year for people struggling with anxiety, loneliness, financial pressure, grief, or other mental-health challenges.

Data from national helplines, including Richmond Foundation, indicates a spike in mental-health-related calls per day during the December period, showing just how many people are silently struggling.

That’s why this season is the ideal moment for your business to support a cause that truly changes lives and to set the tone for your 2026 CSR and ESG goals. Healthy Minds Care, the fundraising and CSR arm of Richmond Foundation, gives organisations a simple, impactful, and transparent way to contribute directly to improved mental health in Malta.
This festive season, we invite you to bring hope and healing into the lives of mothers and children who face extraordinary challenges. At the heart of our “Transform a Life” campaign, we honour the strength of women who are striving to rebuild their lives — while carrying the weight of mental-health struggle and the responsibility of caring for a child. Through your generous gift, you enable these mothers to remain at their safe home at Dar Tereża, surrounded by expert support, therapy and a nurturing environment. When a mother is empowered, her child’s world changes — the laughter returns, the moments of calm replace the fears, the future begins to feel possible again. This is far more than a donation: it’s a lifeline, a reassurance that she is seen, supported and worthy of a fresh start. It’s a light in the darkness, guiding one mother, one child, one family toward dignity, recovery and resilience. So whether you give €10, €25 or €50 — or even share this message with someone else who cares — you are helping to ignite real change this Christmas. Because when we support a mother, we uplift a child; when we uplift a child, we lift a family; and when we lift a family, we strengthen our community. Join us, stand with us, and together we can transform lives.

We tend to think of work performance in terms of how much we can do. But just like our bodies need rest to recover, our minds need time to pause, reflect, and recharge. Taking that time isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity for sustainable wellbeing and productivity.

It’s for this very reason that Richmond Foundation developed Healthy Minds Recharge. This programme invites teams to step away from the everyday rush at the office and reconnect on a human level. It’s a full-day or multi-day reflective getaway designed to help employees rest, reflect, and realign, all guided by trained professionals in a safe, restorative environment.

Whether used as a team-building experience, a reward for outstanding performance, or simply a proactive wellbeing initiative, Healthy Minds Recharge helps people return to work more grounded, resilient, and energised. Here’s how.

The team at Horizon Marketing had always been the kind of group that pulled together. But after an especially intense quarter, something shifted. Everyone was exhausted, and small misunderstandings began to snowball. Disagreements that would’ve once blown over now lingered. There was gossip, quiet resentment, and a growing sense of frustration that no one quite knew how to address.

Their HR manager could see that another pep talk or team lunch wouldn’t fix things. What they really needed was space to step away from the office and reset. While looking into options available in Malta, she discovered Healthy Minds Recharge.

Over a two-day retreat, the team came together in a calm, restorative setting. With guidance from a psychotherapist and a yoga instructor, they unpacked how stress and miscommunication had taken hold. And for the first time in a long time, they spoke openly, not to argue, but to listen. Many realised that what had felt personal were just misunderstandings amplified by fatigue.

By the end of the experience, the tension had eased. They returned to work lighter, more understanding of one another, and reminded of why they worked so well together in the first place. What’s more, some team members even requested they make this an annual event, to help everyone rebalance from time to time and maintain healthy working relationships.

Healthy Minds Recharge is Richmond Foundation’s reflective wellbeing retreat designed for modern workplaces. It offers full-day or multi-day getaways where employees can slow down, reconnect with themselves, and rediscover a sense of clarity and balance.

Each retreat is fully customised to meet an organisation’s goals, whether that’s helping a team decompress after an intense project, strengthening communication and trust, or simply giving staff a meaningful break.

Richmond has also partnered with Tranquil Venues, creating the ideal setting for reflection and rest. Set in peaceful surroundings, these retreats combine the Foundation’s mental health expertise with the healing power of nature.

A typical day blends reflective workshops led by psychotherapists with activities that complement the topic, from mindfulness and journaling to gentle yoga or relaxation techniques. It’s a holistic experience that engages both mind and body, leaving participants feeling refreshed and equipped with practical tools to sustain their wellbeing long after they return to work.

At its heart, Healthy Minds Recharge recognises that mental health and physical wellbeing are inseparable. The retreat blends both to create a balanced, restorative experience built around five key elements:

Reconnection and Self-Discovery
Led by experienced psychotherapists, participants are guided through reflective exercises that help them explore their inner thoughts, emotions, and values. It’s a chance to pause, look inward, and rediscover what truly matters, both personally and professionally.

Holistic Approach to Wellbeing
The programme combines therapeutic workshops with yoga and gentle movement sessions. This blend helps participants release built-up tension, improve mindfulness, and develop healthier habits to carry into their daily lives.

Expert Facilitation and Safe Space
Throughout the retreat, participants are supported by trained professionals, both a psychotherapist and a yoga instructor. This dual expertise ensures that emotional and physical needs are addressed in a thoughtful, non-judgmental space where everyone feels comfortable opening up.

Nourishment for Body and Mind
Healthy Minds Recharge is about full wellbeing, not just reflection. Each retreat includes carefully selected meals and snacks that promote energy and focus, served in tranquil surroundings that encourage relaxation and mental clarity.

A Practical Reset for Mental Wellbeing
Participants leave with more than a temporary sense of calm. They take with them insights, coping techniques, and self-care tools that help them manage stress, set healthier boundaries, and stay balanced, even during high-pressure periods.

Getting help for your mental health isn’t always as straightforward as it should be. Two of the biggest barriers continue to be cost and the stigma related to seeking support. For many employees, therapy feels out of reach, especially when everyday expenses and responsibilities keep piling up. And even when support is available, people often hold back out of fear of being judged, or that speaking up might somehow affect their career.

That’s where employers can step in and make a real difference. Healthy Minds Talk, offered by Richmond Foundation, removes those barriers by giving employees access to professional mental health support that’s easy to book, completely free, and 100% confidential. Staff can reach out directly, without going through HR or management, and get the help they need before small struggles become bigger problems.

Here’s how we are continuing to make mental health care more accessible to everyone at work.

Emma, an accounts officer, had always been dependable. She was the kind of colleague everyone could count on. But when her father fell seriously ill, everything changed. Between long hours at the hospital, sleepless nights, and constant worry, Emma was stretched to her limit.

At work, the cracks began to show. She struggled to concentrate, missed important details, and felt distracted all the time. Deep down, she knew she needed support, but she felt like she couldn’t justify the extra expense and time needed to seek professional help. What’s more, confiding in HR or her manager didn’t feel like an option as she feared it might affect how she was seen at work.

When her company introduced Healthy Minds Talk, it felt like a lifeline. The programme offered free, confidential sessions with Richmond Foundation professionals and no management involvement was required. Knowing her privacy was protected, Emma booked her first session. Over time, she found a safe space to process her stress, learn practical coping tools, and slowly rebuild her resilience.

While her employers never knew that Emma had made use of the Healthy Minds Talk programme, they did notice that she had regained her energy, focus, and confidence over time. Her work improved, but more importantly, she felt like herself again.

Healthy Minds Talk is Richmond Foundation’s confidential mental health support programme for employees of partnered organisations. It gives staff a private, professional space to talk through whatever is affecting their wellbeing, whether it’s work stress, burnout, grief, relationship struggles, or financial worries.

Here’s what the service includes:

Free one-on-one sessions: Employees can meet with licensed professionals, clinical psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, or family therapists, at no cost to them. As the employers cover the programme, it removes one of the biggest barriers to therapy.

Self-referral model: Employees reach out directly, meaning HR doesn’t have to manage the process and employees feel safer accessing support.

Completely confidential: Employees contact Richmond directly. Nothing is shared with HR or management unless the employee gives written consent.

Simple booking: All it takes is a phone call or email to book a session. No paperwork, no waiting for approval, no long delays.

Support for all kinds of issues: It doesn’t need to be work-related. Everything from anxiety and depression to relationship problems, financial stress, or grief is valid.

Legal guidance: Employees can also access advice on issues like discrimination, domestic violence, immigration, and human rights concerns. While Richmond’s professionals don’t represent employees in court, they provide clear guidance and resources to help people take the next steps.

HR support: Richmond helps organisations communicate the programme to staff, encouraging participation and breaking down stigma. This gives HR teams the tools to support their people with confidence and ease.

You go to the gym to get healthier. But once you’re there, you don’t just work out randomly. You choose specific exercises to target certain muscles or tackle problem areas. If you’re looking to lose weight, you’ll hit the cardio. If you want to bulk up, you’ll lift weights. If your back is sore, you’ll focus on stretches and movements that strengthen and relieve that pain. The ultimate goal may be to become a stronger, healthier version of yourself, but there are countless ways to get there

Mental health works in much the same way. It isn’t just one thing, it’s made up of many parts. Stress, trauma, parenthood, friendships, work relationships, the news, even digital fatigue all play a role in how we feel day to day. Each area needs its own strategies and tools to stay strong.

At Richmond Foundation, we’ve developed a wide range of short courses designed to do just that, helping people understand the many challenges that can impact mental health, and giving them the knowledge and resilience to face them head-on.

Here’s a situation many of us can relate to, and how Richmond can make a difference. Later, we’ll also explore some of the other courses we offer to support employees through different life challenges.

For years, a small creative team thrived on an “all hands on deck” culture with long hours, late nights, and plenty of energy poured into growing the business together. Everyone pitched in, and that shared effort became part of the company’s identity and success. But as life moved forward, several team members reached a new chapter of marriage and parenthood.

Suddenly, the same people who had once been first in and last out were juggling sleepless nights, childcare drop-offs, and shifting priorities. They wanted to give their best at work, but often found themselves tired, irritable, and stretched too thin, not sure how to maintain a healthy balance between work and life at home.

Recognising the strain, the company brought in Richmond Foundation for a Working Parent session. A qualified professional led the workshop, offering insights into the emotional and practical challenges parents often face like managing guilt, setting healthy boundaries, and coping with fatigue. Employees were introduced to tools such as stress-management techniques, time-prioritisation strategies, and ways to communicate their needs more openly with managers and colleagues.

All in all, the session created a safe space to share struggles and swap experiences, while also equipping parents with practical strategies to balance both roles. The result wasn’t just individual relief, but a renewed sense of empathy and understanding across the team, strengthening workplace culture, morale, and productivity.

In today’s workplace, continuous learning has become a key priority for employers. More and more companies are investing in upskilling their teams, helping employees stay on top of new trends, face evolving challenges, and grow into confident, capable professionals. This kind of development keeps people engaged, productive, and ready to take the business forward.

But the same energy and investment should also go into mental health. Life doesn’t stop when we’re at work, and whether it’s stress, burnout, or personal struggles, we all face moments that affect how we feel, think, and perform. Without the right tools or understanding, it can be hard to manage these challenges. And that can take a toll, both personally and professionally.

It’s for these very reasons that Richmond Foundation launched its Healthy Minds Learn initiatives. This ride-ranging training programme offers an easy and effective way for employers to equip its people with the knowledge and skills to better understand and support mental wellbeing. Through short courses, hands-on workshops, and Mental Health First Aid training, we help teams build healthier workplaces.

Before we explore what’s available, let’s take a look at how this kind of training can make a real difference.

When Joseph, a much-loved colleague of 12 years, passed away suddenly, the team at his office was left stunned. Some employees were visibly emotional, others withdrew quietly, unsure how to process what had happened. Everyone felt the loss, but no one quite knew how to talk about it. As days turned into weeks, morale began to dip, productivity slowed, and the usual comraderie in the office began to fade.

Leadership wanted to support their team but didn’t know how to approach such a sensitive topic. That’s when they reached out to Richmond Foundation. Upon learning about the situation, the team at Richmond delivered a tailored Trauma at Work workshop, designed to help employees better understand the emotional impact of grief and loss in the workplace. The session didn’t just share practical coping tools, but it also gave the team space to open up and talk honestly about how Joseph’s passing had affected them. Many realised they weren’t alone in their emotions, and that simple act of sharing helped spark a collective sense of healing.

Following the session, the team recognised there was still a way to go but they reported feeling more connected, supported, and emotionally equipped to move forward together. It marked a turning point, showing that with the right tools and support, even difficult moments can bring teams closer.

Grief isn’t the only challenge we bring with us to work. From parenting stress to tech overwhelm, many everyday struggles remain unspoken at the office. But that doesn’t mean they’re not affecting our wellbeing or performance.

At Richmond Foundation, we offer workshops designed to open up these conversations. Each session tackles a specific real-world situation, giving teams practical strategies, emotional insight, and space to reflect.

Here are just a few of the focus areas we cover:

Work-Life Balance: More than ever before, balancing the demands of a full-time job with personal life can feel like a constant juggling act. Burnout, guilt, and lack of boundaries are common issues employees face. This workshop helps participants identify stress triggers, understand the impact of poor boundaries, and explore ways to prioritise both productivity and personal wellbeing without feeling like they’re failing at either.

The Working Mother & Adjusting to Work Post-Maternity: Returning to work after maternity leave can be overwhelming. Many mothers feel torn between career responsibilities and new parenthood. These sessions create a supportive space to talk about identity shifts, time management, guilt, and practical strategies for adjusting smoothly. Richmond helps normalise the experience and equip participants with tools to thrive in both roles.

Bullying at Work: Workplace bullying can be subtle or overt, but either way, it damages morale, mental health, and team trust. This training helps employees and managers understand what workplace bullying looks like, why it happens, and how to respond. Through open discussions and clear frameworks, teams learn how to foster a safer, more respectful work environment.

Technology and Wellbeing: We’re more connected than ever, but at what cost? Constant notifications, screen fatigue, and blurred work-life boundaries can lead to anxiety and burnout. This session explores how our relationship with technology affects mental health, offering practical ways to set boundaries, reduce digital overwhelm, and use tech more mindfully in the workplace.

Practical Relaxation Session: Stress builds up quickly in a fast-paced work setting. This hands-on workshop introduces simple, science-backed techniques to help participants calm the body and refocus the mind. It’s a chance to slow down and learn how small daily habits can improve long-term wellbeing.

Dealing with Depression: Depression can impact anyone, yet it often goes unnoticed or misunderstood at work. This workshop helps demystify what depression is, how it shows up in the workplace, and what kind of support makes a difference. Whether someone is struggling personally or supporting a colleague, participants leave with a better understanding and practical ways to respond with empathy and care.

Another valuable training resource offered through Healthy Minds Learn is our popular Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course. This practical, internationally recognised course is designed to equip managers, HR personnel, and team leaders with the skills to recognise and respond to mental health issues in the workplace.

Licensed by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority, Richmond Foundation is Malta’s sole provider of MHFA training. Tailored specifically for work environments, the course teaches participants how to spot the early signs of mental health problems like depression, suicide ideation, or trauma, and how to provide immediate, non-judgmental support until professional help is accessed or the situation stabilises.

Delivered over four sessions (3 hours each), the course covers common mental health conditions, crisis situations, and the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan. Organisations that train a significant percentage of their team can also receive official recognition as a Certified Mental Health First Aid Skilled Workplace, with Bronze, Silver or Gold certification based on workforce size.

We all carry things into work that aren’t necessarily on our to-do list, whether it’s stress about our finances, sleepless nights worrying about elderly parents, the emotional toll of a relationship, or just feeling low for reasons we can’t quite explain. For many employees, these struggles don’t just stay at home but affect focus, motivation, and even physical health at work.

The truth is, most employees want mental health support at work, but many are still afraid to speak up. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), while 90% say mental health care benefits are essential to a positive work culture, fewer than 40% would feel safe bringing concerns to HR. Only 28% would talk to senior leadership.

That’s where Richmond Foundation’s Healthy Minds Talk comes in. This confidential service gives employees a safe, private way to access professional mental health support with no judgment, no cost, no impact on their job. This ensures employers can provide their people with the care they need, when they need it.

Here we’ll explore the features and benefits of Healthy Minds Talk,But first let’s explore a case study.

Jade had worked with the accounts team for over six years. She was always a bit reserved but reliable and great at her job. So when she started arriving late, staying silent during team meetings, and barely touching her lunch, people noticed. One morning, she suddenly burst into tears at her desk. When Claire from HR gently approached her, Jade insisted she was fine. But Claire knew something deeper was going on.

“I just want you to know you don’t have to go through anything alone,” Claire explained. “Our company offers Healthy Minds Talk through Richmond Foundation. You can speak to a professional in a private space for free, and it’s completely confidential. You don’t even need to tell anyone at work if you decide to go. You just need to reach out to the Richmond team directly and they will sort out all the rest.”

A few weeks later, Jade began showing signs of her old self. Claire and the rest of the team never found out what Jade had been going through. But they didn’t need to. Knowing she had the right support, and seeing her bounce back, was enough.

It’s designed to give people a safe, professional space to talk through whatever’s weighing them down, whether it’s stress from work, personal struggles, or something in between.

Here’s what the service includes:

Free one-on-one sessions: Employees can speak to a licensed psychologist, psychotherapist, counsellor, or family therapist at no cost to them, making it easy and accessible for them to find the professional help to suit their needs.

Fully confidential: If an employee is worried about raising mental health concerns through HR or management, they don’t have to. Employees reach out directly to Richmond Foundation, and nothing is shared unless they choose to give written consent.

Simple booking: We’ve made the programme as accessible as possible. All employees need to do is call or email Richmond Foundation directly. No need for permission, paperwork, or long wait times.

Support for all kinds of issues: Employees can reach out to us for any issue, it doesn’t necessarily need to be work related. From burnout and anxiety to grief, relationship stress, or financial worries, everything is valid and welcome.

Group sessions in times of need: If a team is affected by a sudden traumatic event, like the loss of a colleague, we can also offer group support to help everyone process and heal.

Legal guidance: Employees also have access to legal advice on issues like discrimination, domestic violence, immigration, and more, so they have the right help for whatever life throws their way.

For Employees:

Access to quality mental health care without financial burden: Getting professional help can be expensive, but with Healthy Minds Talk, employees don’t need to worry about the cost. It’s completely free for them, so they can prioritise their wellbeing without financial stress.

Confidence in confidentiality and privacy: No one needs to know they’re reaching out for support, not HR, not their manager. Everything stays between the employee and the professional they speak to, unless they choose otherwise.

A safe space to offload stress and build healthier coping habits: Whether they’re dealing with burnout, anxiety, or personal challenges, employees get a supportive, non-judgmental space to work through what they’re feeling and learn tools to manage it.

Support that goes beyond the workplace: Life doesn’t stop at the office door. Healthy Minds Talk helps people navigate both work and personal struggles—from relationship issues to grief—because everything affects how we show up at work.

For Employers:

Reduced absenteeism and presenteeism: When employees feel mentally well, they’re more likely to show up, focus, and perform at their best. This means fewer sick days and better engagement overall.

Improved productivity and morale: A supported team is a motivated team. Giving staff access to mental health resources shows you care, and that boosts morale and performance.

Higher employee retention and loyalty: Employees who feel genuinely cared for are far more likely to stay—and to speak positively about your company to others.

Insightful reporting to guide future support: While all individual sessions are strictly confidential, employers receive anonymised data to understand trends, needs, and how to better support their team moving forward.

Stronger employer branding: Offering real, professional mental health support sends a clear message about your values as an employer. It helps position your organisation as a progressive, people-first workplace, which is something more top-tier candidates are actively seeking out.
